COSMIC HOOLIGAN
Maria graduated with a degree in Architecture from Central Saint Martins and metamorphosised into a full time, glam’ed up nomad. She traipses the globe with a permanently smouldering cigarette, and her rasping Russian voicebox in tow. Maria recently held her first solo show in Germany and does collaborations with FENDI & Wonderland.
On a night out she flitters between different guise’s, often luring a beau back to her ever temporary sexual lair.
A cosmic hooligan with a loathing for routine, you can usually find her slurping neat vodka, encapsulated in a wrath of exorbitant glad-rags.
What are your thoughts on Fashion Week parties?
As with anything else, I can really enjoy them at the right moment. I love dressing up and watching beautiful people. But sometimes I look around and think you kids take it too seriously, you should all smoke a J haha.
What are your party essentials?
Mood for an adventure and a pack of cigarettes.
How did you find your time at Central Saint Martins?
I never slept. Studying Architecture was interesting and challenging. I followed it in my own way and it made me what I am today. It helped me to understand what I want in life and my art. Plus I've met most of my best friends in Saint Martins. So I'm glad for the experience but also glad that it's over.
Local hangout?
Hm, that's a hard one. I move around cities a lot and hate routine. So it always changes.
Best party ever?
So many! Its always the best party when you want it to be. Once my friend who is a ballet dancer and I broke into a rooftop in Rome. We were dancing all night (tbh she was incredible and I was trying to balance haha). The view of the city was so poetic, it was very inspiring. Or maybe when I went out by myself and every time people asked me who I was I answered differently all the time. I need to do it again.
Cosmic hooligan or DJ Whore?
Cosmic hooligan!
You recently created a set for FENDI & Wonderland. Could you tell us a little more about it?
I am really happy with this project and it was fun to work on it. The idea was logomania. So I took it literally and created a Fendi shrine. FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ FℲ everywhere. I kept seeing them when I close my eyes for a while after.
You travel a lot, what are your favourite bars around the world?
San Calisto in Trastevere, Rome.
Most memorable Dirty Stopout moment?
When I was in boarding school I used to sneak out at nights and run through fields and stables to parties in Brighton. In the mornings I came back in a tracksuit pretending I woke up early and went for a run. One time I forgot to change my shoes and bumped into one of the teachers on 'my run' back. The consequences weren't very great.
Who would you most like to collaborate with next,
and why?
I am always excited to work with people from different disciplines. The outcome is unexpected and really pushes your own boundaries.
